Things To Do At Home During COVID-19

Things to Do While Being Stuck at Home During COVID-19

Right now, a large chunk of the world is stuck inside, potentially out of work, and just generally waiting for all things COVID-19 related to pass by so that they can return to some kind of normalcy in their lives.

While our biggest focus at Xplore is nutrition (it’s kind of in our name), we also understand and regularly talk about other aspects of our lives that impact our health or general lifestyle. That’s why we decided to whip together a quick and dirty list of things you can do while stuck inside during quarantine, or just being at home in general!

Disclaimer: many of the things on this list will be free or discounted until things blow over, so depending on when you access this post, these things may have changed.

Fitness, Nutrition, & Wellness

Xplore Nutrition - not only does our team offer an incredible nutrition coaching program for people who want to lose weight, improve their performance, or better their general health but we also put together a list of 75+ workouts you can do at home without any equipment that can be found by clicking here.

Peloton - while their service generally isn’t free, and this is a limited time offer, the popular at-home cycling brand Peloton has extended their free trial access to 90 days. Take classes lead by instructors in cycling, yoga, meditation, and more.

Girls Gone Strong - a leading brand in helping women specifically live a healthy and active lifestyle, they also put together a well done at-home training program that you can do with minimal to no equipment that can be found by clicking here.

Orangetheory - the popular group fitness brand has started their at-home workout program for free called #OrangetheoryAtHome, including video tutorials on each workout and movement demonstrations that be found by heading here.

Planet Fitness - one of the nations largest and most affordable fitness franchises is offering free at-home workouts online through their United We Move program each day at 7pm ET that can be found by heading to their Facebook page or their YouTube channel.

Headspace - during times like these, mental health is an important part of our lives worth keeping tabs on. The team over at Headspace created a free list that be found here that’s filled with mindful meditation, sleep, and movement exercises to help you stay in a positive headspace (no pun intended).

Yoga With Adriene - yoga is a great way to be mindful of our body and spirit while getting in some activity at home with nothing more than a yoga mat or simply some floor space. Adriene Mishler is an excellent resource for getting your yoga on for free, with an incredible YouTube channel ripe with content.

CrossFit - while their at home workout videos featuring things like water jugs and couches have stirred up their fair share of jokes, they’re now more relevant than ever and available by heading here, teaching everyone that we don’t need a whole gym to stay fit.

Kids

Audible - Amazon’s smash hit audio book service is making things a little easier for parents of young kids by offering a curated list of children’s books available for free than can be found by clicking on this link.

Amazon Prime Video - adding to Amazon’s attempts at helping parents keep kids busy is a limited collection of free to watch kid’s shows that don’t require a subscription to Amazon Prime that can be found here.

GoNoodle - specializing in helping kids move more and practice mindfulness, their video content is free to access and a great resource for parents or teachers alike to keep kids entertained.

Virtual Trips - whether it’s a field trip to a museum, a walk at the zoo, or a family vacation these virtual trips can help you take a look around even if you’re stuck inside; link 1, link 2, and link 3.

Fun In First - rather than this being a free service itself, it’s a compilation of free services or free add-ons for child education.

Productivity

Zoom - this may be one of the best video call services around, offering tools for everything from remote happy hours with your family to business seminars and team meetings. Their team has slapped together a wealth of resources to help you run your business, your team, or just your life remotely that can be found here.

Zencastr - with everyone being stuck at home, there’s never been a better time to start a podcast. Zencastr allows you to host a call with guests, record audio, edit live, and even subscribe to have their team automatically edit your podcast in postproduction. They’re currently offering unlimited guests and recording time for anyone who signs up to their free tier.

Loom - an excellent tool for collaboration, allowing you to record your screen and yourself at the same time to share experiences on projects or workflows is an excellent tool for working remotely. They recently announced that they will be removing the recording limit of their free tier, cutting the price of their pro tier in half, and extending the pro tier trial from 14 to 30 days from now through July 1st.

Education

MasterClass - this is a service I personally subscribe to and highly recommend. The team at MasterClass brings together some of the best of the best in various fields to offer very well put together classes taught by the professionals themselves. Learn how to cook with Gordon Ramsay, play basketball with Stephen Curry, or science from Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

Skillshare - touted as “an online learning community with thousands of classes for creative and curious people,” it allows people from various professions to offer courses you can take to learn a new skill. It’s particularly great for creatives wanting to learn new skills for video/photo editing, graphic design, and more.

Duolingo - a popular and free to use service, Duolingo provides everyone from kids to adults the ability to start learning the basics of new languages from all over the world. With both mobile and desktop apps, it’s a great way to learn something new while you’re hanging out.

Class Central - some of the best universities in the world came together to compile almost 500 free, Ivy League courses that you can access at any time, which can be found by hitting this link.

Scholastic - the longstanding education and book company has curated a free digital learning hub for people to use for kids in pre-k to the 9th grade and up that can be found through their Scholastic Learn At Home program.

Miscellaneous

The Metropolitan Opera - the Met will be uploading a special encore performance of their Live in HD series that can found by heading here. Each performance will only be available for 23 hours, and will cover the past ~14 years of opera performances.

Museum Tours - I think we can all give a special shoutout to Google for curating a collection of digital museum tours through their Arts & Culture website.

Digital Public Library of America - did you know that there was an online resource with over 36 million images, texts, videos, and sounds that catalogue US history? Me neither, until now, and it’s definitely worth a look.

Odds & Ends

This final piece before we close it out is less about links to established resources you can access, and more about the random things you can do at home in general:

  • Take a walk, bike ride, sit outside, or go for swim (if and where allowed of course).

  • Try a new a recipe, watch a new cooking show, or involve your kids.

  • Organize your closet, the kitchen cabinets, or a room that’s been setup the same way for the past five years.

  • Clean your bathroom, do your laundry, or give your car a deep dive so it looks brand new again.

  • Learn to knit, read a book, or tackle some projects around the house.

The list really could go on and on here, but hopefully if you’re reading this, you’ve come up with an idea or two that can help you stay busy and entertained during crazy times!

Have an idea that we can add to the list?

Comment below and let our team know! After we take a look, we just might add it to the list so others can use it too.
